Indonesia had 26,000 teachers for children with special needs in 2022.

Like children in general, children with special needs have the right to a decent education to improve their quality of life.

Based on data from the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, in the first semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, there were 26,850 teachers teaching in Special Needs Schools (SLB) throughout Indonesia. Of this number, 20,050 SLB teachers were female and 6,800 were male.

SLBs are educational institutions intended for children with special needs. In the first semester of the 2022/2023 academic year, there were 2,286 SLBs spread across Indonesia's 34 provinces. 1,656 SLBs are private schools and 630 are public schools.

West Java has the highest number of SLB teachers, with 4,160 teachers. This is followed by East Java with 3,660 teachers and Central Java with 2,750 SLB teachers.

Provinces with the fewest SLB teachers are West Papua, with only 32 teachers in the first semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. This is followed by North Kalimantan with 91 teachers and Papua with 121 teachers.
