Jakarta's Most Expensive Junior High School Tuition Fees in Indonesia

According to the 2018 Supporting Education Statistics report, DKI Jakarta has the highest junior high school (SMP) education costs in Indonesia. Parents needed to spend at least Rp 7.65 million in the 2017/2018 academic year.

The second highest junior high school education costs were in the Riau Islands, requiring Rp 5.71 million.

West Java followed, with junior high school education costs of Rp 5.4 million. Meanwhile, Yogyakarta and Banten had junior high school education costs of Rp 5.28 million and Rp 5.21 million, respectively.

East Nusa Tenggara had the lowest junior high school education costs in Indonesia. During the 2017/2018 academic year, the total school costs in that province amounted to Rp 1.86 million.

The total education costs for students comprised several fees paid to the school, ranging from registration fees and educational development contributions to student worksheets. Furthermore, these costs also included stationery and supplies, practical work and its supporting materials, school courses, evaluations/exams, pocket money, transportation costs, and other expenses.

Education costs varied depending on the provider. Government-run junior high schools had average education costs of Rp 3.73 million. Meanwhile, private junior high schools charged an average of Rp 5.46 million in the 2017/2018 academic year.
