Data Check: Prabowo Mentions a Cultural Endowment Fund; How Much is Allocated in 2023?

Presidential candidate number 2, Prabowo Subianto, stated that he will continue to provide a perpetual cultural fund to support Indonesian cultural actors.

He conveyed this during the fifth series of the 2024 Presidential Election Debate themed Social Welfare, Culture, Education, Information Technology, Health, Employment, Human Resources, and Inclusion at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Sunday (4/2/2024).

In a question-and-answer session, Prabowo said, "Without us boasting, respecting, and preserving our culture, we lose our identity as a nation. We protect all of it. We have a perpetual cultural fund to provide support for all our cultural actors, in all fields. This is absolute."

Based on data from the Ministry of Finance, the perpetual fund for the cultural sector was the lowest in 2023. In comparison, the perpetual fund managed for the education sector reached Rp 111 trillion. Meanwhile, the perpetual fund for the cultural sector was Rp 5 trillion.

According to the Ministry of Finance's projection, the perpetual cultural fund by December 31, 2024, will increase to Rp 7 trillion.
