13.87% of the Population Aged 15 and Over Did Not Possess a High School Diploma in 2021

Education is a crucial asset for national progress, determining the quality of its citizens. Therefore, every citizen has the right to pursue education at all levels, including early childhood education, primary education, secondary education, and higher education.

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded that a portion of the Indonesian population aged 15 and above do not possess a high school diploma. This percentage reached 13.87% in 2021. Papua had the highest percentage of its population aged 15 and above without a high school diploma, reaching 33.58%. Gorontalo followed with 24.64% of its population lacking a high school diploma in 2021.

Meanwhile, 25.10% of the Indonesian population aged 15 and above had a primary school (SD) diploma as their highest level of education. 22.15% of the population aged 15 and above held a junior high school (SMP) equivalent diploma.

Furthermore, 23.97% of the population aged 15 and above possessed a senior high school (SMA) equivalent diploma, and 5.24% a vocational high school (SMK) equivalent diploma. Additionally, 0.4% of the population aged 15 and above held a Diploma I (DI) or Diploma II (DII) equivalent diploma, and 1.53% held an academy/Diploma III (DIII) equivalent diploma.

0.05% of the Indonesian population held a professional diploma. Meanwhile, 7.69% of the Indonesian population held a Diploma IV/S1/S2/S3 equivalent diploma.
