10 Indonesian Campuses with the Most Instagram Followers: UGM Beats UI

Based on data compiled by RevoU, Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is the Indonesian university with the most followers on Instagram as of August 2023. It boasts a total of 1.07 million followers.

"Over the past year, UGM gained more than 180,000 new followers and is the only university in this study to reach 1 million followers," wrote RevoU in its report.

Responding to this achievement, UGM University Secretary Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu stated that UGM will continue to improve its social media performance to make it more effective as a publication and information channel.

"We continue to strive for a more strategic approach to reach our audience so that all information and achievements of UGM are conveyed," said Andi in a statement on UGM's official website on Sunday (September 3, 2023).

In second place is Universitas Indonesia (UI) with 871,000 followers as of August 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, Telkom University is the only private university with the most Instagram followers in the top 10 ranking. This Bandung-based university has 166,700 followers.

RevoU compiled data from the Instagram accounts of the top 15 universities according to the QS World Ranking 2024. The team compared follower counts on Instagram, the number of content produced, and the content strategy employed by each university.

Below is a complete list of the top 10 Indonesian universities with the most Instagram followers as of August 1, 2023:

2. Universitas Indonesia (UI): 871,000 followers
3. Universitas Brawijaya (UB): 450,600 followers
4. Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB): 397,900 followers
5. Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad): 391,900 followers
6. Universitas Airlangga (Unair): 300,400 followers
7. Universitas Diponegoro (Undip): 288,600 followers
8. Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB): 263,900 followers
9. Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS): 250,800 followers
10. Telkom University: 166,700 followers
