Largest Distribution of People's Schools in Java in 2025

Throughout 2025, the Indonesian government operated 166 Sekolah Rakyat (People's Schools/SR) from elementary to high school levels. This aligns with the report presented by Deputy Minister of Finance, Thomas A. M. Djiwandono, during the 'APBN Kita' press conference.

Based on its distribution, the highest number of SRs were located on Java Island, with 69 schools, or 41.6% of the total SRs. Meanwhile, the lowest number was in Bali and Nusa Tenggara, with only seven schools.

Below is the distribution of SRs by major islands in Indonesia in 2025:

• Java: 69 schools
• Sumatra: 35 schools
• Sulawesi: 28 schools
• Maluku and Papua: 14 schools
• Kalimantan: 13 schools
• Bali and Nusa Tenggara: 7 schools

Thomas stated that as of December 31, 2025, the expenditure realization for the SR program amounted to Rp6.6 trillion, or 80.5% of the Rp8.2 trillion budget ceiling.

Of the realized expenditure, Rp5.4 trillion was used by the Ministry of Public Works for the renovation of education centers, and Rp1.1 trillion was utilized by the Ministry of Social Affairs for the implementation of education.

“The budget educated 15,895 underprivileged students and involved 6,849 teachers and education personnel,” he explained during a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday (January 8, 2026).
