Number of Preschools, Junior High Schools, and Senior High Schools in Indonesia in the 2024/2025 Academic Year

The latest report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), *Statistik Indonesia 2025*, compiles the number of schools from basic to upper secondary education levels in Indonesia for the 2024/2025 academic year. These schools are under the authority of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

At the most basic level, kindergartens (TK) totaled 96,638 schools in the 2024/2025 academic year (TA). Private kindergartens dominate, numbering 89,929, while public kindergartens number only 6,709.

Next, primary schools (SD) totaled 149,034 units. Unlike kindergartens, the number of primary schools is significantly higher in the public sector, reaching 129,284 units. Private primary schools number 19,750.

Moving on to junior high schools (SMP), the total number is 43,098 schools. The breakdown is 24,076 public schools and 19,022 private schools.

Meanwhile, upper secondary schools (SMA) number 14,675 units. The difference between public and private schools is not significant at this level. There are 7,113 public schools and 7,562 private schools.

In contrast, vocational high schools (SMK) total 14,325 units. The difference in management is quite significant, with only 3,775 public schools and 10,550 private schools.
