Only 0.02% of Indonesia's population had attained a doctoral degree (S3) by June 2021.

Based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Indonesia's population reached 272.23 million in June 2021. Based on their education level, 59,190 people, or only 0.02% of the Indonesian population, have received an education up to the doctoral (S3) level.

Then, 822,470 people, or 0.03% of the population, have received education up to the master's (S2) level. Furthermore, 11.58 million people (4.25%) have received education up to the bachelor's (S1) level.

Next, 3.46 million people (1.27%) have completed a Diploma 3 (D3) education, while 1.15 million people (0.42%) have completed a Diploma 1 or Diploma 2 (D1/D2) education. In total, 17.08 million people (16.7%) of the Indonesian population have received higher education.

Meanwhile, a total of 95.82 million people (35.2%) have completed junior and senior high school education. Specifically, 56.15 million people (20.63%) have completed senior high school (SLTA) and 39.67 million people (14.57%) have completed junior high school (SLTP).

Those who have completed primary school (SD) number 64.84 million (23.82%). 31 million people (11.39%) have not completed primary school, and 63.49 million people (23.32%) have never attended school.
