These Are the ASEAN Countries with the Best Sustainable Development

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a United Nations (UN) agenda to improve people's well-being through development in the social, economic, environmental, and governance sectors.

As a UN member state, Indonesia has adopted this agenda since 2015.

Generally, the SDGs have 169 targets encompassed in 17 major goals, all of which are expected to be achieved by 2030.

The details of the 17 major SDG goals are:

1. No poverty;
2. Zero hunger;
3. Good health and well-being;
4. Quality education;
5. Gender equality;
6. Clean water and sanitation;
7. Affordable and clean energy;
8. Decent work and economic growth;
9. Industry, innovation, and infrastructure;
10. Reduced inequalities;
11. Sustainable cities and communities;
12. Responsible consumption and production;
13. Climate action;
14. Life below water;
15. Life on land;
16. Peace, justice, and strong institutions; and
17. Partnerships for the goals.

According to the Sustainable Development Report, Thailand has the best sustainable development in ASEAN.

In 2023, Thailand had an SDG index score of 74.67 out of 100. This means that, on average, Thailand is considered to have achieved 74.67% of all SDG goals.

In the same period, Indonesia had an SDG index score of 69.43, ranking 4th in ASEAN.
