Gadjah Mada University (UGM) offers a variety of popular undergraduate (S1) programs in the Social Sciences and Humanities (Soshum) field. This is evident in the enthusiastic response from applicants to these programs.
Data from the Ministry of Education and Culture shows that several programs have high numbers of applicants, for example, UGM's Psychology program. In 2022, it received 3,710 applicants through the test-based admission pathway, making it the second most popular program at UGM, after Medicine, which had 3,802 applicants in the same year.
Other popular programs in the Soshum field include Law, with 3,096 applicants in 2022, and Management, with 2,540 applicants in the same period.
However, what is the tuition cost for these three popular programs?
Through its official website, UGM explains that for the 2023/2024 academic year, the university implements a single tuition fee (UKT) system for excellent education. New students will pay tuition fees according to their economic capabilities.
The system includes unsubsidized and subsidized excellent education UKT. Unsubsidized UKT is for those who are financially capable. Subsidized UKT offers varying subsidy amounts: 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%.
To determine the appropriate tuition fee, new students are required to upload proof of parental income and supporting documentation. The university will then assess and determine the UKT amount fairly.

The Management and Law programs have the same UKT amounts. The details are as follows: unsubsidized excellent education UKT is Rp9.2 million.
The 25% subsidized UKT is Rp6.9 million. The 50% subsidized UKT is Rp4.6 million. The 75% subsidized UKT is Rp2.3 million. Finally, the 100% subsidized UKT is Rp0.
UGM's Psychology program differs slightly. The unsubsidized excellent education UKT is Rp11 million. The 25% subsidized UKT is Rp8.25 million. The 50% subsidized UKT is Rp5.5 million, and the 75% subsidized UKT is Rp2.75 million. The 100% subsidized UKT is, of course, Rp0.
This fee is payable after enrollment or at the start of the new semester.
UGM notes that prospective students accepted through the 2023/2024 academic year UGM Computer-Based Test (UM-CBT) entrance examination, who receive unsubsidized excellent education UKT or have good economic capabilities, are required to pay the Excellent Education Solidarity Contribution (SSPU).
This contribution is Rp30 million for science, technology, and health fields. For social sciences and humanities, it is Rp20 million.
Currently, registration for the National Selection Based on Test (SNBT) is ongoing and will close on April 14, 2023.
UGM's Management program will accommodate 45 new students. Law will accept 99 new students. Finally, Psychology will offer 68 places for new students.
