Only 6.3% of Gorontalo's population had attained tertiary education by March 2021.

Based on data from the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the population of Gorontalo was 1.19 million in March 2021. Of this number, only 75,480 people (6.3%) had attained tertiary education/university.

The details are as follows: 328 people (0.03%) of Gorontalo's population are S3 graduates, 4,110 people (0.34%) have completed S2 education, and 55,710 people (4.65%) have completed S1 education.

Furthermore, 10,930 people (0.91%) of Gorontalo's population have completed D3 education, and 4,390 people (0.37%) have completed D1 and D2 education.

The population of Gorontalo who have completed Upper Secondary Education (SLTA) is 213,260 people (17.79%). There are also 134,740 people (11.24%) who have completed Lower Secondary Education (SLTP).

The population of Gorontalo who have completed Primary School (SD) is 344,970 people (28.78%), and those who have not completed primary school number 210,840 people (17.59%). Those who have not attended/never attended school number 219,470 people (18.31%).
