The number of schools from Elementary School (SD) to Upper Secondary School (SLTA), including Special Needs Schools (SLB), in Indonesia reached 307,655 in the 2017/2018 academic year. Based on the basic education data from the Ministry of Education and Culture, this number comprises 169,378 public schools and 138,277 private schools.
The number of elementary schools (SD) is the highest, reaching 148,244. There are 38,960 junior high schools (SMP). For upper secondary schools (SLTA), there are 27,205, consisting of 13,495 senior high schools (SMA) and 13,710 vocational high schools (SMK).
