Indonesian government slashes 60% of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency's budget in 2022.

The Indonesian government slashed the budget of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) by 60%, reducing it to Rp 554.6 billion in 2022 from an outlook of Rp 1.39 trillion in 2021 within the State Budget (APBN).

The breakdown is Rp 152.8 billion for the cybersecurity and national cryptography program budget, and Rp 401.8 billion for management support programs.

With this budget, BSSN is expected to strengthen cybersecurity resilience and security, focusing primarily on building multi-stakeholder capabilities in early detection and handling of cybersecurity incidents.

BSSN was established in 2017 through Presidential Regulation Number 53 of 2017, revitalizing the State Crypto Agency (Lemsaneg). BSSN is tasked with carrying out cybersecurity effectively and efficiently by utilizing, developing, and consolidating all elements related to cybersecurity/the digital world.

In today's digital era, an agency is needed to supervise the security of public data collected by the government and private sector, which must be kept confidential to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands and being misused.
