Is This Favorite Country a Prime Target for Hackers? Is Indonesia on the List?

Another alleged data breach has occurred. This time, a hacker identifying as Bjorka claims to have accessed Indonesian government data, including documents belonging to President Joko Widodo from 2019 to 2021.

Bjorka has uploaded at least 10 data sets related to Indonesia over the past three weeks. The hacker breached and uploaded data from State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), ministries and institutions, mobile SIM cards, and even data belonging to Indonesian officials.

Globally, Indonesia is not among the top targeted countries for hackers. According to the Microsoft Digital Defense Report 2021, the United States experienced the most cyberattacks from various countries worldwide between July 2020 and June 2021.

The technology company's report focuses on state-sponsored cybercrime activities. Microsoft states that approximately 48% of hacker attacks targeted the United States. Ukraine was the second most targeted country, with 19% of attacks.

Other countries targeted by hackers include the United Kingdom (9%), Belgium (3%), Japan (3%), Germany (3%), Israel (2%), Moldova (2%), Portugal (1%), Saudi Arabia (1%), and others (11%).
