Padang Pariaman's Economy Experienced the Deepest Contraction in West Sumatra in 2020

Padang Pariaman Regency's economy suffered the deepest slump in West Sumatra. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the regional gross domestic product (RGDP) at constant 2010 prices contracted by 10.46% year-on-year (yoy) to Rp 11.94 trillion in 2020.

The transportation and warehousing sector contributed the most to the contraction of Padang Pariaman Regency's economy throughout last year. The RGDP at constant 2010 prices in this sector decreased by 47.03% (yoy) to Rp 1.52 trillion.

For information, the transportation and warehousing sector contributed 30.23% to the total RGDP of Padang Pariaman Regency in 2019. However, its percentage decreased to 16.33% in 2020.

Padang City was second with a decrease in RGDP at constant 2010 prices of 1.86% in 2020. Following this was Mentawai Islands Regency with a contraction of 1.85% (yoy).

Bukittinggi City's RGDP at constant 2010 prices also contracted by 1.74% (yoy) last year. Then, Payakumbuh City and Padang Panjang City experienced contractions of 1.66% (yoy) and 1.44% (yoy) respectively.

Solok City recorded a decrease in RGDP at constant 2010 prices of 1.42% (yoy). Next, Dharmas Raya Regency's RGDP at constant 2010 prices contracted by 1.39% (yoy).

Agam Regency's RGDP at constant 2010 prices decreased by 1.38% (yoy). Meanwhile, Pasaman Barat Regency's RGDP at constant 2010 prices experienced negative growth of 1.34%.
