Wholesale Trade Price Index Down Slightly by 0.01% in February 2022

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) in February 2022 stood at 108.46, down 0.01% compared to January 2022 (month-to-month/m-to-m).

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics, Setianto, explained that the main cause of the WPI decline stemmed from the agricultural sector, particularly the commodities of chicken eggs, chili peppers, and cabbage.

The WPI for the agricultural sector in February 2022 was recorded at 101.8, down 1.14% (m-to-m) compared to the previous month's figure of 102.97.

Conversely, the mining and quarrying sector experienced a 0.67% (m-to-m) increase. In February 2022, the WPI for the mining and quarrying sector was recorded at 111.82, compared to 111.07 in January 2022. The main driver of this increase was the price of sand.

The industrial sector also saw a 0.24% (m-to-m) increase, rising from 109.78 to 110.05. The main contributors to this increase were fuel oil, kretek cigarettes and filters, LPG, and granulated sugar.

BPS also noted that in February 2022, the agricultural sector was the dominant contributor to the change in the WPI, at -0.22%. Meanwhile, the mining and quarrying sector contributed 0.01%, and the industrial sector contributed 0.2%.
