With Ramadan Approaching, Red Chili Prices Reach Their Highest

Entering Ramadan, red chili prices have seen the highest increase compared to other staple foods in the market. Monitoring from the National Strategic Food Price Information Center website shows that red chili prices have increased by 33.5 percent in the last month. This increase is calculated from the period of May 1 to June 2, 2017.

Currently, the average price of red chilies reaches Rp 30,850 per kg. Chicken prices have increased by 13 percent to Rp 32,200 per kg. Meanwhile, bird's eye chilies have experienced the sharpest decrease. The average price of this commodity has fallen by 16.13 percent to Rp 39,750 per kg.

In general, there are 5 food commodities that have increased in price, namely red chilies, chicken, rice, chicken eggs, and beef. Those that have decreased are bird's eye chilies, shallots, and garlic. White sugar is the only commodity that has remained relatively stable at around Rp 14,900 per kg.
