East Java Has the Highest Ease of Doing Business Index

The 2017 Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI) research shows that East Java has the highest Ease of Doing Business (EDB) score compared to the other 33 provinces. This research, conducted from April to September 2017, used three assessment categories: investor attractiveness, business friendliness, and competitive policies.

East Java's Ease of Doing Business ranking in 2017 rose two levels to first place from third place in 2015. This improvement was driven by East Java's improved investor attractiveness ranking, rising to first place from fifth place previously. Meanwhile, Jakarta's ease of doing business ranking fell two levels to fourth place from its previous position. Bengkulu had the lowest ranking, at 34th, down from 26th previously.

Of the 34 provinces, 18 were above the national average for ease of doing business, while 16 were below the national average. This ease of doing business survey involved 925 business actors and utilized data from the Central Statistics Agency (Badan Pusat Statistik). A score above 0 indicates a score higher than the national average; conversely, a score below 0 indicates a score lower than the national average.
