President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will appoint a successor to Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army (KSAD) General TNI Agus Subiyanto next week.
According to *Detik.com*, Jokowi has not yet revealed the candidates for KSAD. However, he confirmed that the name of the Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad) Lieutenant General Maruli Simanjuntak, son-in-law of Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, is on the list of candidates.
"One of the candidates, yes [Maruli]," said Jokowi after attending the peak of the National Teachers' Day event at Indonesia Arena GBK, Senayan, Jakarta, Saturday (25/11/2023).
*Katadata* reported that General TNI Agus Subiyanto, who recently took office as KSAD on Sunday (27/10/2023), will be proposed by Jokowi as the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Jokowi has submitted the proposal to the DPR to replace Admiral Yudo Margono, who will retire in December 2023.
Maruli himself stated that he is ready if appointed as KSAD. “As a soldier, whether appointed or not, one must continue to work,” said Maruli during a visit to the State Secretariat Ministry's office, as reported on Wednesday (1/11/2023).
Maruli has held the position of Pangkostrad since the beginning of 2022. His military career began after graduating from the Military Academy in 1992. Maruli specializes in infantry.
