Rice prices in Indonesia continue to soar in recent months. Not only in offline markets and retail stores, but research institution Compas also found price increases in online stores or e-commerce.

Compas researched the prices of four types of rice on several major domestic e-commerce sites, namely Shopee, Tokopedia, and Blibli, during the period of December 1, 2023 – February 20, 2024. The research was conducted using online crawling or digital search methods.

The results showed that in January 2024, the average price of white rice on e-commerce increased by 22% compared to the previous month (month-on-month/mom).

Then, in February 2024, the average price increased again by 11% (mom).

Similar increases occurred for other rice varieties sold on e-commerce, such as red rice, brown rice, and black rice. The percentage increase in their prices can be seen in the graph above.
