The Election Supervisory Honorary Council (Dewan Kehormatan Penyelenggara Pemilu, DKPP) dismissed Hasyim Asy'ari as Chairman of the General Election Commission (Komisi Pemilihan Umum, KPU) for violating the election organizer's code of ethics and conduct.
In a hearing presided over by DKPP Chairman Heddy Lugito, Hasyim was found guilty of ethical violations due to sexual misconduct against a female member of the Overseas Election Committee (Panitia Pemilihan Luar Negeri, PPLN) in The Hague, Netherlands, identified only as CAT.
The misconduct involved sexual exploitation, which according to the UN is the abuse of power against a vulnerable person for sexual purposes, not limited to financial, social, or political gain from the sexual exploitation of others. This sexual exploitation constitutes sexual violence.
Using his position of power, Hasyim was proven to have coaxed the victim into a relationship, pressured her to go out with him, and forced her into sexual relations.
"We impose a permanent dismissal sanction on the respondent, Hasyim Asy'ari, as chairman and member of the KPU commissioner, effective from the reading of this decision," Heddy said during the hearing at the DKPP office, as reported by *Katadata* on Wednesday (3/6/2024).
