Despite Soaring Investments, Bahlil's Wealth Increased Marginally Over the Past Three Years

Bahlil Lahadalia has served as the Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) since October 2019. In 2021, he was appointed as the Investment Minister, concurrently holding the position of BKPM Head.

During Bahlil's tenure, Indonesia's realized investment has increased annually. In 2022, it reached Rp1,200 trillion, a 34% year-on-year growth, setting a new record high.

However, Bahlil's personal wealth increased only slightly, not as significantly as the investment growth he oversaw.

According to the State Officials' Wealth Report (LHKPN), at the end of 2019, Bahlil's assets were approximately Rp295 billion. By the end of 2022, this had increased to Rp302 billion.

Cumulatively, over the past three years, Bahlil's wealth increased by approximately Rp7.3 billion, or 2.5%.

This figure is relatively small compared to the wealth growth of Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan, whose assets increased by Rp220 billion, or 32.5%, over the same period.

Currently, Bahlil Lahadalia and Luhut Pandjaitan are reportedly interested in becoming candidates for the General Chairperson of the Golkar Party, replacing Airlangga Hartarto.

"Every cadre who feels responsible for serving the party, I think, feels called (to become a chairman candidate). But through the party's mechanism," said Bahlil, as reported by Detik.com on Tuesday (25/7/2023).

Luhut expressed a similar sentiment. "If (many cadres) support it, I'm willing (to be a chairman candidate)," said Luhut, as reported by Detik.com on Tuesday (25/7/2023).
