December 2016 Inflation at 0.42 Percent

In December 2016, inflation reached 0.42 percent, with the consumer price index (CPI) at 126.71. This resulted in a calendar year (January-December) 2016 inflation rate of 3.02 percent. Of the 82 cities included in the CPI, 72 experienced inflation, while the remainder experienced deflation. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the highest inflation occurred in Lhokseumawe at 2.25 percent, while the lowest inflation was recorded in Padangsidempuan and Tembilahan at 0.02 percent.

The December 2016 inflation was caused by price increases reflected in the rise of several expenditure group indices, including: the food commodity group at 0.5 percent, the processed food, beverages, tobacco, and cigarettes group at 0.45 percent, and the health group at 0.32 percent. Meanwhile, the clothing group experienced deflation, reaching 0.46 percent.
