Compared to the COVID-19 pandemic period in 2020, the economic growth in this region is significantly higher. At the end of 2020, post-COVID, growth was recorded at a decrease of 2.04%.
According to BPS (Statistics Indonesia) publications, with a total population of 643,400, the GRDP per capita in this region is recorded at Rp40,430,000/capita/year. Nationally, this GRDP per capita ranks 300th.
Of the 17 sectors driving economic activity in this regency, the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector is the leading contributor.
The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector in Sambas Regency is the mainstay sector and contributed the largest share to the 2023 GRDP, reaching Rp8.6 trillion. This represents a 1.74% growth compared to the previous year's Rp8.18 trillion.
The second largest contributor to the GRDP in Sambas Regency is the wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles sector, which grew by 7.09% to Rp4.72 trillion, followed by the manufacturing industry sector, which grew by 0.98% to Rp3 trillion.
Finally, rounding out the top five GRDP contributors in Sambas Regency is the public administration, defense, and compulsory social security sector, with a value of Rp1.61 trillion. According to BPS, this sector grew by 5.06% over the past year from the previous achievement of Rp1.45 trillion.
