These are the main commodities contributing to inflation in March 2024.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia experienced 3.05% year-on-year (yoy) inflation and 0.52% month-to-month (mtm) inflation in March 2024.

Acting Head of BPS, Amalia A. Widyasanti, stated that the monthly inflation rate during Ramadan was higher than in February 2024, which was 0.37% (mtm).

"The largest contributor to monthly inflation came from the food, beverage, and tobacco group, with an inflation rate of 1.42% (mtm) and contributing 0.41% to overall inflation," said Amalia in an online press conference on Monday (1/4/2024).

The commodities that contributed the most to monthly inflation in March 2024 were chicken eggs, chicken meat, and rice, each contributing 0.09%.

Next were gold and jewelry, contributing 0.04% to monthly inflation, followed by cayenne pepper and garlic, each contributing 0.02%.

Then there were several commodities that contributed 0.01% each to monthly inflation: kretek cigarettes (SKM), shallots, cooking oil, fresh fish, spinach, string beans, live chicken, and papaya.

There were also commodities that contributed to deflation, including red chilies and tomatoes, which contributed -0.02% (mtm) deflation respectively.

BPS recorded that in March 2024, monthly inflation occurred in 34 out of 38 Indonesian provinces, while the remaining 4 provinces experienced monthly deflation.

The highest monthly inflation occurred in North Sulawesi Province, at 1.07% (mtm). Meanwhile, the deepest monthly deflation occurred in Maluku Province, at -0.46% (mtm).
