Consumer Perception of Economic Conditions Improves in April 2021

Bank Indonesia (BI)'s Consumer Survey shows that consumer perception of economic conditions improved in April 2021. This is reflected in the Economic Conditions Index (ECI), which stood at 80.3 points in April 2021, up from 72.6 points the previous month.

The increase in the ECI was supported by increases in all components. Specifically, the Current Income Index was recorded at 88.4 in April 2021, up from 78.2 points the previous month.

The Job Availability Index increased from 59.6 points to 68 points in April 2021. Meanwhile, the Durable Goods Purchase Index rose from 80 points to 84.6 points last month.

Consumer perception of current income improved from the previous six months due to workers receiving religious holiday allowances (THR). Furthermore, businesses experienced increased turnover during Ramadan and Idul Fitri. These conditions are considered to have successfully improved people's income.

Job availability has improved across all education levels, particularly for those with an academy background. All age groups also experienced an increase in the index.

Improved income and job availability conditions encouraged people to buy durable goods, such as electronics and household appliances.
