The economy stemming from creative ideas and concepts is projected to continue growing, potentially replacing natural resources as the main pillar of the national economy. Currently, the creative economy only contributes about 7% to Indonesia's total Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) recorded that the creative economy's GDP in 2016, at current prices, reached Rp 922.59 trillion, contributing 7.44% to the national economy. The current leading sectors in the creative economy include culinary, fashion, and handicrafts. Meanwhile, film, music, and game application development show significant potential.

This year, the creative economy is projected to reach Rp 1,041 trillion, absorbing 13.9% of the workforce and contributing US$19.4 billion to national exports. Next year, it is expected to further increase to Rp 1,123 trillion, contributing US$25.1 billion in exports.
