Transportation, Food, and Tobacco Remain the Highest Contributing Groups to February 2023 Inflation

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that inflation in February 2023 reached 5.47% (year-on-year/yoy). The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 114.16.

The highest inflation occurred in Kotabaru at 7.88% with a CPI of 120.04, and the lowest was in Waingapu at 3.57% with a CPI of 112.74.

"Inflation occurred due to price increases indicated by the increase in most expenditure group indices," wrote BPS in its report.

The expenditure group with the highest inflation was transportation, at 13.59% (yoy). This group contributed 1.63% to national inflation.

Second was food, beverages, and tobacco at 7.23%. However, this group's contribution to national inflation was larger than transportation, at 1.87%.

Third was personal care and other services at 5.63%. This group contributed 0.35% to national inflation.

The group that experienced a decrease in the index was information, communication, and financial services at -0.20%.

BPS stated that month-to-month (m-to-m) inflation in February 2023 was 0.16% and the year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation rate in February 2023 was 0.50%.

The core inflation rate in February 2023 was 3.09% (yoy), m-to-m inflation was 0.13%, and y-to-d inflation was 0.47%.
