Indonesia's Agricultural Sector Contribution to the National Economy in 2021

Agriculture is Indonesia's second-largest economic pillar.

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the agricultural sector at current prices reached Rp2.25 quadrillion throughout 2021. This value contributed 13.28% to the national GDP.

The contribution of the agricultural sector to the national GDP in 2021 decreased by 0.42 percentage points compared to the previous year, which reached 13.7%. Compared to 2010, the contribution of the agricultural sector also decreased by 0.65 percentage points.

Measured by the GDP at constant 2010 prices, the agricultural sector in 2021 only grew by 1.84% compared to the previous year.

Although higher than the achievement in 2020, the growth of the agricultural sector in 2021 was still lower than before the Covid-19 pandemic, where growth was always above 3%, as shown in the graph.

Here's a breakdown of the growth of the agricultural sector and sub-sectors in 2021:

1. Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting, and Agricultural Services grew by 1.08%
a. Food Crops contracted by 1.56%
b. Horticultural Crops grew by 0.56%
c. Plantation Crops grew by 3.52%
d. Livestock grew by 0.34%
e. Agricultural and Hunting Services grew by 1.32%
2. Forestry and Logging grew by 0.06%
3. Fisheries grew by 5.45%.

Here is the contribution of agricultural sub-sectors to the national GDP in 2021:

1. Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting, and Agricultural Services 9.85%
a. Food Crops contributed 2.60%
b. Horticultural Crops contributed 1.55%
c. Plantation Crops contributed 3.94%
d. Livestock contributed 1.58%
e. Agricultural and Hunting Services contributed 0.19%
2. Forestry and Logging contributed 0.66%
3. Fisheries contributed 2.77%.
