In February 2018, inflation reached 0.17% compared to the previous month (MoM), the lowest in the last three months. Meanwhile, calendar year inflation (January-February) was 0.79%, and the year-on-year (YoY) inflation rate for February 2018 compared to February 2017 was 3.18%.
According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the highest inflation was experienced by the processed food, beverages, tobacco, and cigarettes expenditure group, at 0.43%, contributing 0.07% to the February 2018 inflation. This was followed by the clothing group at 0.35%, the health group at 0.26%; and the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel group at 0.22%. Meanwhile, the food ingredients group experienced inflation of 0.13%; education, recreation, and sports at 0.07 percent; and transport, communication, and financial services at 0.02%.
Of the 82 cities surveyed, 55 experienced inflation while 27 experienced deflation. The highest inflation was recorded in Jayapura at 1.05 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 131.65, and the lowest inflation was in Palangkaraya at 0.04 percent with a CPI of 127.64. The highest deflation occurred in Medan at 0.96 percent with a CPI of 136.82, and the lowest in Lubuklinggau at 0.02 percent with a CPI of 129.79.
