Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was officially appointed as the Prime Minister (PM) of Malaysia after taking the oath at the Istana Negara, Malaysia, on Thursday, November 24, 2022. He became Malaysia's 10th PM, succeeding Ismail Sabri Yakoob.
According to the *New Strait Times*, the new Malaysian PM had a total net worth of RM11,178,667.80 as of October 2022, approximately Rp38.95 billion (Indonesian Rupiah).
According to his statutory declaration (SD), Anwar stated that he had approximately RM828,000 in cash in the bank and properties and land worth RM10.35 million.
Meanwhile, the King of Malaysia, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, appointed Anwar Ibrahim as the new Malaysian PM after the Malaysian general election resulted in a hung parliament.
The chairman of the Election Commission (SPR) of Malaysia, Abdul Ghani Salleh, in an official statement on Sunday, November 20, said that the election results showed that Pakatan Harapan (PH), led by Anwar Ibrahim, obtained the most seats with 81 seats in Parliament. Meanwhile, the Perikatan Nasional coalition, led by former PM Muhyiddin Yassin, obtained 73 seats.
Barisan Nasional, dominated by the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), obtained 30 seats. On the other hand, although PH received the most votes, neither Muhyiddin nor UMNO were willing to form a coalition with Anwar Ibrahim.
On Wednesday, November 23, the King of Malaysia, Al-Sultan Abdullah, intervened by gathering all members of the Sultanate council. Subsequently, on Thursday, November 24, morning, he summoned all the rulers from the states of Malaysia to gather at the Istana Negara.
"After considering the views of the esteemed Malay Rulers, His Majesty graciously consented to appoint Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia," stated the official announcement released by the Istana Negara Malaysia, as reported by *Katadata.co.id*.
