What Were the Biggest Global Business Risks in 2022?

An Allianz survey reports a variety of global business risks emerging in 2022. According to the survey, cyber incidents such as cyberattacks and data breaches were the biggest business risks this year.

At least 44% of respondents in the survey chose this option, the highest percentage compared to other options. Business disruptions, such as supply chain disruptions, ranked second as the biggest business risk, reaching 42%.

Next, the risk of natural disasters was recorded at 25%. Meanwhile, 22% of respondents stated that the pandemic remains a business risk.

19% of respondents considered regulatory changes to be the biggest business risk due to intense trade wars and economic sanctions. Climate change and fire/explosion tragedies had the same percentage, at 17%.

Furthermore, 15% of respondents considered market developments to be the biggest business risk, and 13% cited a lack of skilled labor. Only 11% of respondents believed that macroeconomic developments were the biggest business risk for them.

Allianz conducted this survey among 2,650 respondents who are users of their insurance services in 89 countries. The survey was conducted in October-November 2021.
