LPDP Assets Show Strong Growth, Mostly in Long-Term Investments

The assets of the Indonesian Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) have grown significantly in the last five years.

At the end of 2018, LPDP's total assets were approximately Rp46.9 trillion. By the end of 2022, this had increased to Rp127.3 trillion.

Cumulatively, from 2018 to 2022, LPDP's total assets increased by approximately Rp80.4 trillion, a growth of 171%.

At the end of 2022, the majority of LPDP's assets consisted of Non-Permanent Long-Term Investments, valued at Rp119.8 trillion.

This Non-Permanent Long-Term Investment portfolio comprised Rp84 trillion in bonds and Rp35.8 trillion in deposits.

In mid-2023, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani announced a further increase in LPDP funds.

"Eleven years ago, LPDP started with Rp1 trillion; now it has reached Rp139.1 trillion," said Sri Mulyani at the LPDP Fest in Jakarta, as reported by *Detik.com* on Thursday (3/8/2023).

This was confirmed by President Jokowi. According to Jokowi, the substantial size of LPDP's managed funds has attracted many world universities to seek Indonesian students.

"We have a considerable fund (LPDP), now Rp139 trillion. Top 20 (world) universities are offering themselves to us," said Jokowi at the same event.

"It's not like before, when the (LPDP) funds were small, and we had to beg. I was only given a quota of 5 students. Now we have Rp139 trillion, they are coming to us because they know we have the budget, LPDP has the funds, and Rp139 trillion is not a small amount," he added.

Jokowi urged ministers to carefully plan the disbursement of LPDP scholarships to meet Indonesia's needs and vision.

"What majors? How many? What research fields? It must be truly targeted. No wasted budget," said Jokowi.
