Global Firepower 2019 Survey: Indonesia's Military Strength Ranked 16th in the World

At 74 years of age, Indonesia's military strength remains a force to be reckoned with on the world stage. This is reflected in the Global Firepower 2019 survey, which ranked Indonesia 16th out of 137 countries. Indonesia's Power Index (PwrIndx) stands at 0.2804. Indonesia ranks below Pakistan but surpasses both Israel and North Korea, as shown in the graph below.

The United States (US) remains the country with the strongest military, with a PwrIndx of 0.0615. Russia is second with a PwrIndx of 0.0639, and China is third with a PwrIndx of 0.0673. In Asia, Indonesia's military strength ranks ninth, and eighth in the Asia-Pacific region.

The PwrIndx assessment uses more than 55 indicators; the closer to 0, the stronger the military. Using a unique formula, a country with advanced technology can outperform a larger country. This ranking considers not only the number of weapons but also geographical location, personnel strength, and financial stability. Nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles are not factored into this PwrIndx.
