Switzerland Became the Country with the Richest Population in the World in 2020

The 2021 Global Wealth Report shows that each adult in Switzerland has average wealth of US$673,690, or Rp 97.63 billion (at an exchange rate of Rp 14,492/US$). This is the highest amount compared to other countries in the world.

The United States is in second place, with each resident possessing average wealth of US$505,420. Hong Kong follows with average wealth per resident of US$503,340.

Each resident in Australia and the Netherlands has average wealth of US$483,760 and US$377,090, respectively. Next are Denmark, Belgium, and New Zealand with US$376,070, US$351,330, and US$348,200, respectively.

Singapore, in Southeast Asia, is also on the list. The average wealth per resident in the Lion City is US$332,990.

Meanwhile, the average wealth per adult globally is estimated at US$79,952 in 2020, a 6% increase compared to the previous year. Total global wealth also increased by 7.4% to US$418.3 trillion last year.

According to the report, the number of millionaires globally increased by 5.2 million, from 50.8 million in 2019 to 56.1 million in 2020. The recovering stock market and soaring house prices helped boost their wealth.
