East Tanjung Jabung Regency Had the Worst Performing Economy in Jambi in 2020

East Tanjung Jabung Regency's economy experienced the sharpest decline in Jambi Province. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the regency's economy, measured by the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at constant 2010 prices, contracted by 3.87%, reaching only Rp 17.27 trillion in 2020 from the previous year.

The decline in East Tanjung Jabung Regency's economy was triggered by a contraction in the mining and quarrying sector of 7.47%, reaching Rp 9.59 trillion in 2020 from the previous year. In 2019, this sector contributed 50% to the regency's economy, but in 2020 it shrank to only 35.5% of the GRDP.

The next deepest contraction was experienced by Jambi City, at 3.28%. This was followed by West Tanjung Jabung Regency with a contraction of 0.64% and Bunga Regency with a contraction of 0.4%.

Meanwhile, Kerinci Regency and Merangin Regency recorded economic growth of 3.69% and 0.78%, respectively, in 2020.

The economic growth of Kerinci Regency in 2020 was partly driven by the 49.11% growth in the construction sector's GRDP. Merangin Regency's economic growth, on the other hand, was supported by a 1.78% growth in the agricultural sector's GRDP.
