How much foreign investment in Indonesia originates from China?

Realized foreign investment from China during the first half of 2018 reached US$1.34 billion, equivalent to Rp 18 trillion, or 8.8% of the total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Indonesia, which amounted to US$15.27 billion. Investment from the "Bamboo Curtain" country ranked third largest. However, this figure does not include investment from Hong Kong, which reached US$1.1 billion. In total, FDI from China and Hong Kong reached US$2.49 billion.

Meanwhile, the largest FDI into Indonesia still came from Singapore, reaching US$5.04 billion, equivalent to Rp 67.59 trillion, or 33% of total foreign investment in Indonesia. Japan was second with US$2.39 billion.

Foreign investment from Singapore to Indonesia comprised 4,276 projects, while FDI from Japan consisted of 2,275 projects and from China, 1,202 projects. The inflow of FDI resulted in the entry of foreign workers (TKA) into Indonesia. Some projects utilizing new technologies, not yet feasible for local workers, require foreign workers from the country of origin. They work as operators and experts until technology transfer is complete.
