According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the economy of the Special Region (DI) of Yogyakarta, based on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at current prices, amounted to Rp149.37 trillion throughout 2021.
This figure is only about 5% of the GRDP of DKI Jakarta, making DI Yogyakarta the province with the smallest economy on the island of Java.
Measured by GRDP at constant 2010 prices, the economy of DI Yogyakarta grew by 5.53% in 2021 compared to 2020, which experienced a contraction of 2.65%.
DI Yogyakarta's growth achievement in 2021 was also above the growth rate of the Indonesian economy, which only grew by 3.69% in the same year.
From the business field perspective, the economy of the province led by Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X was mostly supported by the manufacturing industry, with a contribution of 12.36% in 2021. This was followed by the information and communication sector with a contribution of 10.72%, and the construction sector with 10.14%.
The sector with the highest growth was the other services sector, at 21.53% throughout 2021. This was followed by the information and communication sector, which grew by 16.69%, and the construction sector, which grew by 10.82%.
From the expenditure side, the household consumption component still dominated the Yogyakarta economy with a proportion of 64.32% in 2021. This was followed by the gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) component at 32.83%, and the government consumption expenditure component at 15.45%.
The export of goods and services component recorded the highest growth, at 21.68%, followed by the GFCF component, which grew by 8.2%, and the household consumption expenditure component, which grew by 1.77%.
