2014-2018, Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Saved Rp 1.5 Trillion in State Funds

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has successfully prosecuted numerous public and private officials proven to have caused state financial losses. However, this has not deterred corruptors from misappropriating state funds financed by public taxes. Current punishments have not been sufficient to deter perpetrators of corruption in Indonesia.

Between 2014 and 2018, the KPK successfully recovered Rp 1.49 trillion in state funds, and a number of assets were also confiscated for government use. The largest recovery of state funds by the KPK was recorded in 2016, reaching Rp 532 billion. During this period, the KPK finalized legal proceedings against 362 corruption convicts.

A total of 911 public officials and private employees were prosecuted by the KPK for corruption between 2014 and 2018. In addition, 4 corporations were found guilty of corruption. From January to September 2018, 174 public and private officials were arrested by the KPK, and 3 corporations were implicated in corruption cases. 85 members of the DPR/DPRD were targeted by the anti-corruption commission this year. The large number of elected officials implicated in corruption cases is linked to the arrest of 41 members of the Malang Regency DPRD by the KPK for bribery related to the Regional Budget (RAPBD).
