PT Bukit Asam Tbk. (PTBA) will distribute dividends totaling Rp12.56 trillion, representing 100% of its 2022 net profit. This distribution has been approved by the General Meeting of Shareholders (RUPS).
According to *Katadata*, this net profit increased by 58.9% compared to the same period in 2021, which was Rp7.90 trillion.
This surge in net profit also increased the basic earnings per share (EPS) or dividend of this coal mining issuer, from Rp702 per share to Rp1,094 per share.
The RUPS, held on June 15, 2023, had a positive impact on PTBA's share price. Yahoo Finance data shows that the news of the large dividend caused the share price to rise by Rp3,620 per share. The day before, the share price was recorded at Rp3,480 per share.
On June 16, 2023, the share price rose again to Rp3,820 per share. However, on June 17, it fell slightly to Rp3,790.
For the two days of June 20-21, 2023, PTBA's share price closed consistently at Rp3,850.
Although it has risen, this price has not yet surpassed the price in April 2023, specifically on April 26 and 28, 2023, which reached Rp4,140 per share. This was the highest price in the last three months.

Beware of the Jumbo Dividend Trap
In a separate report, *Katadata* explains the other side of the jumbo dividend distribution.
There are concerns about a dividend trap, where the issuer's share price tends to fall after the ex-dividend date or on the last trading day before the dividend distribution.
The share price could even hit the lower auto reject (ARB). This usually happens because investors sell off the issuer's shares simultaneously.
Based on research by KB Valbury Sekuritas, the state-owned enterprise (BUMN) is targeting a buy-on-weakness strategy at a price range of Rp3,790.
"The PTBA price target is in the range of Rp3,940 as the upper limit and Rp3,740 as the lower limit," wrote KB Valbury on Tuesday (June 20).
Meanwhile, the tolerance limit for PTBA shares to fall, or the stop-loss level, is at Rp3,540 per share.
