Indonesia's Digital Economy Potential 2015-2025

The 2019 report *e-Conomy SEA*, published by Google, Temasek, and Bain, shows that e-commerce has the largest digital economic value compared to other sectors. In 2019, the gross merchandise value (GMV) of e-commerce reached US$21 billion. This figure increased significantly by 1,135.3% from US$1.7 billion in 2015.

This increase enabled e-commerce to surpass online travel, which previously led in digital economic potential in 2015. By 2025, e-commerce is projected to grow by 290.5% to US$82 billion.

The online travel sector also recorded growth, although not as large as e-commerce. In 2019, the GMV of online travel was US$10 billion. This value increased by 100% from US$5 billion in 2015. By 2025, online travel is projected to have a GMV of US$25 billion, a 150% increase compared to 2019.

The ride-hailing sector also experienced a significant increase of 566.7%, from US$900 million to US$6 billion. Furthermore, in 2015, the ride-hailing sector was predicted to increase by 200% to US$18 billion. Finally, the online media sector was the smallest among the others.

In 2015, the recorded GMV of online media was US$600 million, which then increased by 566.7% to US$4 billion. By 2025, the projected GMV of online media is US$9 billion, a 125% increase from 2015.
