According to a Populix survey, many Indonesians reduced essential spending in the first half of 2025.

In the last six months, 50% of respondents reduced daily spending on basic necessities or food.

Others also cut spending on transportation (45%); electricity, gas, and water bills (29%); as well as rent or mortgage payments (14%).

Furthermore, 11% of respondents reduced spending on education, and 11% cut healthcare spending. Meanwhile, only 14% did not reduce essential spending.

"To manage rising costs, many Indonesians have started to reduce spending, not only on non-essential items like dining out and entertainment, but also on daily necessities," said Populix in its Consumer Confidence Index 2025 report.

Populix conducted this survey online from June 10-12, 2025, involving 1,100 respondents. The majority of respondents were located on Java Island (79%), followed by Sumatra Island (13%) and other islands (8%).

Respondents consisted of 50% men and 50% women. Furthermore, 82% of respondents were employed, and 17% were unemployed.
