SMRC Survey: Majority of Indonesians Rate the Current State of Corruption Eradication as Poor

Corruption cases in Indonesia remain prevalent despite ongoing eradication efforts. A survey by Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) reveals that a majority, or 41.5%, of the public perceive the current anti-corruption efforts in Indonesia as poor.

The details show that 29.7% of respondents rated the current anti-corruption conditions in Indonesia as poor, while 11.8% rated them as very poor.

Nevertheless, 28.8% of respondents assessed the anti-corruption conditions in Indonesia as good. This breaks down to 23.1% rating it as good and 5.7% rating it as very good.

Furthermore, 25.1% of respondents rated the anti-corruption conditions in Indonesia as fair. The remaining 4.5% of respondents did not know/did not answer.

On the other hand, the survey also indicates that 54.8% of respondents are generally optimistic that the anti-corruption conditions will be good or very good in the next year. Meanwhile, 18.5% believe it will be poor/very poor, 18.5% believe it will be fair, and the remaining 8.3% of respondents did not know/did not answer.

This survey was conducted from December 8-16, 2021, through face-to-face interviews involving 2420 randomly selected respondents from across the Indonesian population aged 17 years or older, or who are married. The response rate (validly interviewed respondents) was 2062 or 85%. The margin of error of the survey is estimated at ± 2.2% at a 95% confidence level.
