2024 BRICS Investment Ratio Projection: Indonesia Shows High Ranking

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) announced that Indonesia officially became a member of BRICS at the beginning of 2025.

"This membership is the result of Indonesia's active involvement with BRICS over the past few years," according to a press release from Kemlu on Monday (7/1/2025).

"Indonesia views its membership in BRICS as a strategic step to enhance collaboration and cooperation with other developing countries, based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and sustainable development," it continued.

According to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), BRICS is a multilateral cooperation group formed in 2009 with initial members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

By the end of 2024, they had four additional members: the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Iran, and Ethiopia.

Quoting BBC calculations, the BRICS member countries represent 45% of the world's population and 28% of the global economy.

Among BRICS members, Indonesia has a relatively high investment ratio.

According to projections by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in 2024 Indonesia's investment-to-gross domestic product (GDP) ratio could reach 30.54%.

This ratio is the fourth highest in BRICS, after China, Iran, and India. Other members have lower ratios, less than 30%, as shown in the graph.

Indonesia's investment ratio is also higher than the global median investment ratio, which is estimated to be only 22% in 2024.
