A Jakpat survey reveals differences in preferred vacation destinations between young Indonesians (Gen Z and Millennials) with and without children.
Nature destinations were the most popular choice for both groups, with 80% of the 779 Gen Z and Millennial respondents who had already planned a vacation selecting this option. "Nature destinations such as beaches, mountains, and waterfalls were favored by 80% of respondents," Jakpat reported on Thursday, April 26, 2024.
Culinary destinations were the next most popular, with a total of 56% choosing this option (56% without children and 57% with children).
Family tourism was also quite popular, with a total of 53% choosing this option (39% without children and 68% with children). "Family attractions such as zoos and amusement parks were popular among respondents with children," Jakpat noted.
Adventure destinations followed, with a total of 32% (36% without children and 29% with children). "Respondents without children tended to choose adventure tourism, such as white-water rafting, diving, or hiking," according to Jakpat.
Architectural destinations were chosen by 25% of both groups.
Educational destinations were selected by 24% overall (21% without children and 27% with children).
Finally, agricultural destinations were chosen by 22% (20% without children and 25% with children).
This section of the survey on vacation destinations involved 779 out of 1,148 respondents. The 1,148 respondents consisted of 49% male and 51% female. Gen Z respondents (aged 15-27) comprised 42% of the sample, while Millennials (aged 28-43) made up 58%.
The survey was conducted in three major regions: Jakarta and surrounding areas (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi); Java (West Java excluding Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi; Banten excluding Tangerang; East Java; Central Java; and Yogyakarta); and outside Java (all areas in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua).
Data was collected online via the Jakpat application from October 1-3, 2024, with a margin of error below 5%.
