Home, A Source of Anti-Corruption Value Education for School-Aged Children in Indonesia

Anti-corruption education is one strategy for eradicating corruption and fostering an anti-corruption culture among the younger generation.

Results from the Anti-Corruption Behavior Survey by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) indicate that the home is the primary source of anti-corruption values education for school-aged children.

This education is provided by parents or other family members, accounting for 70.56% in 2024.

Next is school-based learning through subjects or extracurricular activities (13.19%). The school environment, encompassing the exemplary behavior of teachers/principals and school routines, also serves as a source of learning for 9.43%.

"Education also serves as a more systematic and measurable medium for observing the development of changes in anti-corruption behavior, shifting from initially condoning and forgiving corrupt actors to firmly rejecting all forms of corruption," wrote the BPS in its *2024 Anti-Corruption Behavior Index* report.

Sources of corruption value education include the home environment (3.96%); online media accessed by children, such as YouTube or films (1.59%); peers (1.15%); and children's reading materials and games (0.12%).

On the other hand, the BPS also found that 60.72% of Indonesians believe that the behavior of school-aged children in their environment already reflects anti-corruption values in 2024.

Note that this data is from a survey of a sample of 11,000 households spread across 186 regencies/cities.
