South Korea, Leading Nation in AI Patents in 2022

The 2024 Stanford University *Artificial Intelligence (AI) Index Report* ranks countries with the highest number of artificial intelligence patents in 2022.

Citing the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights, a patent is the inventor's exclusive right to an invention in the field of technology for a certain period, to implement it themselves or to grant permission to others to implement their invention.

The country with the most AI patents per capita is South Korea, with 10.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. Between 2012 and 2022, the growth of AI patents in this country exceeded 3,801%.

Second is Luxembourg with 8.73. Third, the United States with 4.23.

Fourth and fifth are Japan and China with 2.53 and 2.51 respectively.

Following are Singapore, Australia, Canada, Germany, and Denmark in the top 10.

* United States: 4.23 per 100,000 inhabitants
* Japan: 2.53 per 100,000 inhabitants
* China: 2.51 per 100,000 inhabitants
* Singapore: 2.06 per 100,000 inhabitants
* Australia: 1.91 per 100,000 inhabitants
* Canada: 1.25 per 100,000 inhabitants
* Germany: 0.66 per 100,000 inhabitants
* Denmark: 0.56 per 100,000 inhabitants.
