Data compiled by Our World in Data shows that total global corporate investment in artificial intelligence (AI) reached US$168.22 billion in 2023.

This figure is down 22.67% year-on-year (YoY) from US$217.54 billion in 2022. Overall, all types of investment decreased in 2023.

The largest type of investment came from private investment, totaling US$85.36 billion. This represents a 10.84% YoY decrease from US$95.74 billion in 2022.

Second was acquisitions or mergers, totaling US$71.69 billion. This figure plummeted by 33.91% YoY from US$108.48 billion in 2022.
