Salary and Allowance Range for Judges in Indonesia

Judges' salaries in Indonesia have not been increased since 2012. As a result, a number of judges feel their welfare is being neglected.

"Many judges feel that their income no longer reflects the responsibilities and workload they bear," said Fauzan Arrasyid, spokesperson for the Indonesian Judges Solidarity, as reported by *Kompas.com* on Tuesday (October 8, 2024).

To date, the salaries and allowances of Indonesian judges are based on Government Regulation (PP) Number 94 of 2012.

The amounts vary greatly depending on years of service, rank, career level, work location, and court class.

The lowest basic salary is given to Grade IIIa Judges with 0 years of service, namely Rp 2.06 million per month.

The highest basic salary is given to Grade IVe Judges with 32 years of service, namely Rp 4.98 million per month.

In addition to basic salary, judges are also entitled to receive a position allowance.

The lowest position allowance is given to First Instance Judges in Class II Courts, namely Rp 8.5 million per month.

While the highest position allowance is given to the Chief/Head Judge at the High Court and Military Court, namely Rp 40.2 million per month.

Judges are also entitled to receive allowances based on their location, ranging from Rp 1.35 million to Rp 10 million per month.

Furthermore, they are entitled to government housing, transportation facilities, health insurance, security guarantees, travel expenses, protocol status, pension income, family allowances, and rice allowances.

Currently, the government is working on a policy to increase judges' salaries. "Everything is still under review and calculation. Everything is just being calculated," said President Jokowi, as reported by *Katadata.co.id* on Tuesday (October 8, 2024).
