Indonesia's Ganda Putra Reaches Korea Open 2023 Semifinals; What's the Prize Money?

The 2023 Korea Open was held at the Palma Indoor Stadium in Suncheon, South Korea, from July 18-23, 2023. This badminton tournament, a BWF World Super 500 event, offered a total prize purse of US$420,000, or approximately Rp6.3 billion (assuming an exchange rate of Rp15,018 per US$).

Indonesia sent several of its best players to the 2023 Korea Open, although popular players such as Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonathan Christie, and men's doubles pair Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Marcus Gideon were absent.

Indonesia contributed the most players in the men's doubles category to the 2023 Korea Open, with five pairs participating.

However, only the pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto managed to reach the semifinals.

The world's number one men's doubles pair defeated the Malaysian pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzudin in the quarterfinals on Friday (July 21, 2023) with a score of 23-21.

Although they didn't reach the final, Fajar and Rian are entitled to the quarterfinal prize money of US$3,045, or approximately Rp45.72 million per pair.

According to the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the prize money for the men's doubles category at the 2023 Korea Open is as follows:

* Runner-up: US$15,960 per pair
* Semifinal: US$5,880 per pair
* Quarterfinal: US$3,045 per pair
* Round of 16: US$1,575 per pair

Fajar and Rian's journey to the final of the 2023 Korea Open is just one step away. It's not impossible for this pair to win the champion's prize of US$33,180, or approximately Rp498.2 million.
